Vinesthene Drip Feed Attachment

Date of manufacture:
1930s

Manufacturer:
M&IE

Description:
This vaporiser accommodates the inverted 25 ml vinesthene supply bottle and delivers the liquid via a needle valve control through a drip chamber to a wire mesh that lines the main airway tube. It was designed to be attached to any type of Boyle or McKesson apparatus or might be incorporated into a circle absorption circuit. The tap opens the air inlet tube to atmosphere. This MIE example differs from the B/W illustration by offering a more secure housing for the vinesthene bottle.

In this application, the addition of di-vinyl ether (Vinesthene) to a nitrous oxide/oxygen anaesthetic is smooth and furnishes enhanced muscle relaxation.
