Fluotec Mk II fenestrated for display

Date of manufacture:
1960s

Manufacturer:
Cyprane

Description:
The Fluotec Mk II is the original of the 'Tec' series of vaporisers dedicated to individual volatile anaesthetics.
This plenum vaporiser incorporates a bi-metal strip mechanism to modify the outlet orifice of the vaporisation chamber in order to compensate for changes in temperature and therefore the saturated vapour pressure of the liquid halothane. It is this 'temperature compensated' rather than 'temperature controlled'. The chamber incorporates wicks in order to extend the vaporising surface of the halothane and some of those wicks are arranged around the cylindrical wall of the vaporiser to encourage uptake of heat from the metal wall. The knob, which controlls the proportion of bypass flow, is calibrated 0 - 4% FLUOTHANE (halothane , ICI Ltd.) A permanently attached calibration graph indicates variation in the vaporiser output at low flow.
