Item:
Bull nose cylinder needle valve

Date of manufacture:
1930s

Manufacturer:
BOC

Description:
The assembly has a needle valve and contents gauge but no regulator or flow indicator. It has a bullnose fitting that requires the use of a wooden mallet to tighten or loosen the seal. The letters 'RH' on the threaded portion of the fitting indicate that this is a right hand thread and is consistent with non-fuel gases. The flow will decline as the pressure in the cylinder falls. Worse, although it was previously used on an oxygen cylinder, this bull nose fitting with right hand ('RH') thread will fit any non-fuel cylinder including, O2, CO2, N2O, N2, and air but not fuel gases such as hydrogen, methane, acetylene since they have reverse or left hand ('LH') threads. The absence of a flow meter suggests that it originally say service on a Boyle or a Gwathmay anaesthetic machine.
